The coil is the business

Nobody buys roof sheets; they buy roofs — and the roofing yard's real capital question is coil stock. Galvanised and pre-painted coil in commercial widths, in the gauges your market buys, in enough colours to say yes to a builder — that inventory routinely exceeds the machine's price within the first months of trading, and its financing decides your margin more than the machine's speed does. The second structural cost is handling: coils arrive in multi-tonne units that need a crane or proper forklift capacity, and a decoiler rated for what you actually buy. Budget the machine last; it's the most predictable line on the sheet.

What separates a machine from a production line

  • The decoiler — a manual mandrel feeds a demo; a hydraulic decoiler feeds a business.
  • Cut-to-length control — builders order lengths; your reputation is the shear's accuracy at speed.
  • Run-out and stacking — long sheets need supported run-out tables and sane handling, or you make scrap with excellent profile.
  • Gauge honesty — machines quoted for 0.3–0.8mm form best in the middle; if your market buys a specific gauge, test that gauge at the FAT, not on your first coil.
